Director of Factory Operations

Skyline Furniture is a family-owned and operated wholesale furniture manufacturing company, based just outside of Chicago. Skyline Furniture is looking for a dynamic Director of Factory Operations to lead our manufacturing facility just outside of Chicago. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker with strong operational expertise and a deep understanding of manufacturing processes, particularly in the upholstered furniture industry. The ideal candidate will drive continuous improvement, ensure production efficiency, and maintain the highest quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of managers, supervisors, and production staff, fostering a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Operational Excellence: Oversee all aspects of factory operations, including production, maintenance, quality control, logistics, and safety, ensuring that targets for efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery are consistently met or exceeded.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency. Utilize lean manufacturing principles and other methodologies to drive change.
  • Production Planning & Scheduling: Collaborate with the production planning team to develop and maintain efficient schedules that meet customer demand while optimizing resources and minimizing downtime.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensure that all products meet or exceed quality standards. Work closely with the quality assurance team to address any issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Safety & Compliance: Champion a safe work environment by enforcing safety policies and compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure all employees are trained in safety procedures.
  • Budget Management: Develop, manage, and optimize the factory budget, controlling costs while maintaining quality and operational standards.
  • Technology Integration: Evaluate and implement new technologies and equipment to improve production efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including Design, Sales, and Supply Chain, to align factory operations with company goals and customer requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, Business Administration, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a manufacturing operations leadership role, preferably within the upholstered furniture or related industries.
  • Proven track record of managing complex manufacturing operations with a focus on quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Experience with ERP systems and production planning tools.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
